michael donovan was here!
Hello, I'm Michael Donovan. I'm 6 feet tall and made of awesome. You can find me amazing.
Here's the story: I am a charming photographer with beautiful blue eyes and a mischievous smile based in New York City. My focus is on fashion, fine art, portrait and editorial. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and started shooting in late 2006 while I was living in Chicago performing standup comedy. Before standup I was a top-performing Operations Manager responsible for as many as 1,400 employees and a half dozen departments in two states (read: I know how to lead and influence large groups of people to achieve a goal).
I started shooting cityscapes while in Chicago because I didn't like the postcards they were seling at CVS and wanted to send something more rad to my family and friends back home. People started buying my prints for their homes so I dropped the comedy act in 2007 and spent more time shooting things. My work evolved and I began combining editorials and people in the artwork to address situations about society, religion, politics, sexuality, death and anything else "unsafe" I would have normally talked about on stage. I also started shooting portraits because, well, I just like meeting new people and love making them look bad-ass. Fashion interested me because it is the one industry that leads and evolves as much as I do.
I shot in Chicago for a little over a year and a half then took a year off and locked myself in an apartment in Bloomfield, NJ to independently study art. I moved to New York in May of 2009, threw out all my previous work from Chicago and am sinking in to the worlds of art, fashion, and commerce. Clients include The Pierre Hotel, Ford, Supreme, Lara Miller, Chloe Wang, and Trump to name a few. I've shot for Vision Magazine (CN), Chicago Tribune, Moda FG, Florida International and some others. I'm extremely passionate about photography, business and social sciences.
